On a used OLED screen, look for traces of previously displayed content. A recurring logo or uneven area can become more or less obvious depending on the picture. One sales photograph is therefore insufficient to judge how the screen will look with your ordinary films, games or work material.
Begin with changing views
Show normal moving content, followed briefly by calm light, grey and coloured images. From an ordinary distance, look for recognisable outlines. Notice whether a shape stays in the same location when the content changes. A brief inspection does not require leaving a static test pattern on the screen for a long time.
Record conditions such as brightness and picture mode. An extreme setting in a dark room can look different from everyday use. Nevertheless, do not ignore a visible issue simply because it is less apparent in an especially contrasty promotional video. Compare understandable conditions rather than selecting only content that flatters the display.
Do not diagnose from one image
LG’s guidance distinguishes temporary image retention from more persistent burn-in. For a buying inspection, begin with the actual observation: which shape is visible, with what content, and does it remain after the picture changes? A definitive technical assessment may require further investigation beyond a brief viewing session.
Ask about known traces and previous use, including displays with frequently stationary elements. An operating-hours counter can provide additional context but cannot guarantee condition. Likewise, a low stated running time cannot invalidate a visible problem. Current picture quality and usage history are separate pieces of information to consider together.
Do not treat maintenance as a repair promise
Many OLED products have manufacturer-provided maintenance or compensation functions. Use them only according to the model instructions. Do not repeatedly run intensive cycles as an improvised buying test. The existence of a feature does not mean every existing image trace will reliably disappear after it is used.
Decide on the condition the offered screen actually achieves under understandable circumstances. If improvement is merely promised for later, the uncertainty remains. Recommended protection features and sensible handling of prolonged static content belong in your later care routine, but cannot replace a clear condition description before purchase.
Common questions
Can a colourful video hide image traces?
Yes. Visibility changes with content. Compare several views as well as the material you normally watch.
Does pixel maintenance guarantee a flawless panel?
No. It is an intended maintenance feature with model-specific instructions. Assess existing traces instead of assuming they will certainly be removed.
