The battery, wand, floorhead and charger all form part of a cordless-vacuum purchase. A discounted motor unit without the right head is not yet a complete household cleaner. Establish the exact version, because similar model names may have been sold with different batteries and accessory packages. A listing should identify what is actually included.

Observe battery use under clear conditions

Ask whether the battery is replaceable and which replacement is intended for that version. Visible deformation, a cracked case or damaged contacts are reasons to stop trying the appliance. Opening a battery or substituting individual cells does not belong in a buying inspection.

A running-time observation needs a known starting charge, recorded power setting and the intended head. Maximum power and a motorised brush place different demands on the system from an economical mode. Do not compare a demonstration result with a manufacturer figure obtained under different conditions.

Treat the floorhead as a separate wear item

With the appliance switched off, inspect the brush roller, wheels and joint. Tangled hair may obstruct movement; a damaged bearing or broken support is a different finding. Remove only parts identified as owner-removable in the manual. Keep hands away from a running brush.

Check conversion between wand and handheld use and whether catches engage securely. Powered heads also require the correct connection and approval for the model. A mechanical fit does not establish electrical compatibility. Dyson accordingly organises support and replacements by particular machine family.

Consider charging and future costs together

Read the charger’s markings and confirm its assignment to the cleaner. A wall dock is useful only if its fittings and any charging connection are complete. Ask whether the power supply is included rather than assuming it comes with the dock shown in a photograph.

Make a cost list for a replacement battery, filters and worn roller. A shorter running time might be adequate for a small home, or immediate replacement might make the price unattractive. Base the decision on your cleaning needs rather than the number of illuminated charge symbols at handover.

Common questions

Can running time definitively assess the battery?

It shows performance in that observed combination. Filters, power setting, head, floor and starting charge affect the result; it is not a complete capacity measurement.

Is a charger with the same plug enough?

No. Its electrical specifications and approved application must match. Use the intended combination and resolve unreadable markings before operation.
